Doug Hardy has been a shareholder at Sorensen, Vance & Company, P.C. since 2006 and the firm’s Director of Taxation since joining the firm in 2002. Prior to joining the firm, he was a Senior Tax Manager for a national accounting firm.

Doug’s professional practice focuses on tax planning, return preparation, and consulting for businesses and individuals. He has experience in estate planning, mergers and acquisitions, multi-state taxation, real estate transactions, high-wealth individuals and representation before the IRS and state taxing authorities. This includes unique experience with S-corporations, partnerships, and limited liability companies (LLCs).

He has been asked to give presentations on many topics including Estate Tax Planning Strategies, Charitable Giving, Partnership Allocations, S Corporations, Tax Law Updates and Tax Research. He has also taught college courses on income tax and accounting.

Doug enjoys spending time with family, skiing, and golfing.

Tori Potestio joined Sorensen, Vance & Company, P.C. in 1988 and became a shareholder in 2006. Tori is the firm’s Director of Attest Services and the Director of Quality Control.

Tori’s professional practice focuses on auditing, review and other attest services. She has specific audit expertise with most of the major industries serviced by the firm - with an emphasis on non-profit organizations, including those organizations subject to Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book). She performs the detail review of a majority of the firm’s audit and review engagements and provides consultation services related to non-profit organizations. As the firm’s Director of Quality Control, Tori is responsible to ensure that the firm complies with quality control standards and that quality attest services are provided to the firm’s clients.

Michael Renza joined Sorensen, Vance & Company, P.C. in 1992 and became a shareholder in 2006. He is the Director of Information Technology for the firm and helps keep the firm on the cutting edge of technology to improve efficiency in accounting services and firm administration.

Mike’s professional practice primarily focuses on auditing and consulting services for small business clients. He has significant background experience in the following industries: broker dealers, construction, hospitality, manufacturing, professional services, retail and retirement plans. Mike has exceptional computer and problem-solving skills, which provides unique opportunities to serve our clients.

Mike has no social life to speak of, but enjoys vacationing in Florida and taking cruises around the world. He occasionally plays tennis, attempts to play golf and was a former ski instructor and ski patroller.

Don Sorensen is the founding member of Sorensen, Vance & Company, P.C. and its predecessor companies. He and another individual formed the predecessor accounting firm in 1976 and incorporated Sorensen, Vance & Company, P.C. in 1986. He is the Director of the firm’s management group, audit technical advisor and senior business advisor. Prior to founding the firm he was an audit manager with a large local accounting firm.

Don’s professional practice primarily focuses on planning and advisory services for individuals and small business clients. He has significant background and experience is in the following industries: broker dealers, financial services, hospitality, manufacturing, professional services, real estate, retail and wholesale, and retirement plans. He has expertise in business entity selection, tax and profit planning, audit and fraud investigation, general accounting services and retirement plan compliance and administration.

He serves on the Board of Directors of a business consulting company that provides human relation services to management personnel of large companies across the United States. He is an active member of a CPA “Management for Results” group that has been meeting annually since 1986. This group provides ‘best practices” information to its members.

Don enjoys spending time with his wife and family. His vacations are centered around trips to Seattle and Houston to visit his children and four grandchildren. He is an avid tennis player and has been playing competitively for over 45 years. As a give back to the game of tennis he has served in various capacities on the Boards of the Intermountain and Utah tennis associations for the past eight years. A tennis highlight for him was a trip to Paris and the French Open in 2007.
